Violence and Democracy
Violence and Democracy is a book in which John Keane discusses "violence" once again, this time in the context of democracy. Violence, as one of the most conflicting elements with democracy and one of its most serious problems, is something that everyone who believes in democracy should stand against as a human duty. Violence is not an absolute part of "human nature"; This concept does not accept a single definition due to the wide variety of meanings attributed to it, which is why there is confusion, says Keane. That's why it calls on everyone, especially the helpless politicians who find the answer to violence in violence, to think in detail about the source of violence, its consequences, the disguises it assumes and, of course, its solutions.
While the author rails against efforts to justify violence with the power he draws from democracy, he is also absolutely opposed to leaving the world at the mercy of violence. Keane, who believes that only democracy can put a stop to the "triangle of violence" that surrounds our world, argues that it is necessary to "democratize" violence, that is, to make it openly accountable in the hands of democracy: He believes that only in this way can violence be erased from the face of the earth.
