Korin, an archivist in a town in Hungary, discovers an old manuscript among ordinary documents. This manuscript, which tells the legendary story of four friends who were caught in another war while trying to escape from the war, shakes Korin deeply. He steals the document and decides to transfer it to the Internet in order to "transmit it to eternity", and to do this in the center of the world, New York.

László Krasznahorkai offers his readers a narrative as legendary and shocking as the one in the manuscript he found in War and War. It tells about a man who pursues meanings that we feel but cannot name, that we cannot perceive even when they are close to us, and a man who overcomes all impossibilities to achieve his goal in life.
