Yervant Bostanci is one of the great masters of oud. He is an Armenian from Diyarbakir. He was born in Xançepek, Gâvur District. He dived deep into the music he was introduced to by listening to the sad voice of his father, Kekê Yaqo, and playing the darbuka at weddings. He remembered the musical culture of Diyarbakir with his baglama, cümbüsü, Celal Güzelsesi, Kurdish, Armenian and Turkish.
Udi Yervant, who immigrated to Istanbul in 1976 and to the USA in 1992, returned to Diyarbakir around the time this book was published.
The book in your hand is the story of Diyarbakir's unique musical culture, the Armenian neighborhood, old Diyarbakir with all its aspects of life from the 1950s to the 1970s, Kurdish-Armenian daily relations, puss making, and tradesman conversation.
