Sanat Nedir
What makes a work of art a work of art? Famous thinker and art critic Arthur C. Danto is looking for an answer to this very basic and yet complex question. What is Art challenges the common belief that art is an indefinable concept and pursues the qualities that create universal meaning.
According to Danto, there are two main criteria that determine whether something is a work of art: meaning and embodiment. The art audience also adds interpretation as the third criterion. While creating his argument, Danto draws on thinkers such as Descartes, Kant, Hegel and Heidegger, starting from Plato's Republic; It deals with the works of artists such as Michelangelo, Poussin, Manet, Duchamp and Warhol. In this intellectual journey, landmark works such as the magnificent ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, Duchamp's urinal, and Warhol's boxes accompany us. In Danto's philosophical analysis, eye-opening answers are offered to many current questions about art.
