Semantics, as a semantic science based on the long history of linguistics, theory and philosophy, and gaining many perspectives in the 20th century, investigates the fields of meaning depending on the discipline from which it is viewed and includes historical semantics, which is a dynamic research branch within itself. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, historical semantics, with different approaches, tried to find its own way in a classical way, starting from etymology, semasiology and onomasiology, and this effort was especially manifested in dictionaries, encyclopedias and edition works, while also examining the conditions and tools of meaning formation and production in past cultures. leads to investigation.
The present study defends to the end the thesis that historical semantics, which undertakes the task of discovering, systematizing and explaining historical developments in the context of differences in language(s), makes it visible that concepts are associated with political and social contexts, and that the complexity of these contexts is limited to neither diachronic nor synchronic aspects. At this point, it is important to see the fact that historical semantics, as a historiography that interprets meaning with the aim of turning to the diversity of linguistic, pictorial, textual and ritual means of expression, does not only ask about concepts and meanings, but also questions status changes and plane changes.
Again, by drawing attention to the expectations and experiences in the change of basic concepts, from questions related to meaning change and meaning space to structural expressions and processual events, this study examines some criteria such as democratization, temporalization, ideologization, politicization, technologization for the historical analysis of meanings, and it focuses on these different formations and historical It reveals the essence of semantics.
