White Nights
The greatest prophet of the 19th century is Dostoyevsky.”
- Albert Camus -
White Nights, one of Dostoyevsky's early works and written in 1848, is one of the author's naive works that differs from his entire oeuvre. As is customary in Dostoyevsky's works, the events narrated by an anonymous narrator take place over four nights and one morning. Our narrator gradually loses himself to Nastenka, whom he met and saved on the first night, as a result of his long conversations.
Our dreamer hero, who has isolated himself from people and life, begins to experience happiness for the first time in these conversations. However, Nastenka has been waiting for her lover, who promised to return but did not even write her a single letter, for a year.
