Le Guin speaks to us in the language of dreams, telling stories of women and dragons. These are stories that have not yet come true. The language he speaks is familiar to all of us. Some of us try not to hear it in horror, do not listen to it, do not understand it. But some of us listen, and those who have the courage realize that they have known that language since birth. That language tells what has not yet been named, what has not yet been experienced, what has been seen but not perceived, what has always been heard but is thought to be noise. Le Guin is the wise old lady on the spaceship. The dragon that speaks with a language as ancient as existence, the sorcerer who uses his power only in the face of necessity... Where does critical thought reach today? The twentieth century is full of pain, oppression, domination and exploitation, as is often seen in human history. But there were also countless thinkers of this century who defied time and contributed to our understanding of the world we live in with their observations and thoughts... Here, with the Metis Selections, we aimed to present representative examples from these writers who brought new intuitions to our age. When introducing an author living in another country in Turkish, this is the case. There are difficulties brought about by differences between the two societies such as language, cultural background, published and unpublished premises. We want to overcome this difficulty and make critical thought discussable in Turkish with the selections we have prepared by taking into account the unique conditions of the reading environment in Turkey.
