Your Theorist Was Revolutionary
While world capitalism is once again going through a period of crisis that has devastating social consequences, the voices of those who react to social injustices are getting louder. In 2011, while rallies attended by hundreds of thousands of people were held in many countries, the "Occupy Wall Street" movement using the slogan "world revolution" emerged even in the USA, the center of the imperialist world. Erkin Özalp discusses how movements questioning capitalism should look at Marxism and what Marxism can learn from these movements, in a period when, in his own words, "capitalism is being questioned again".
According to the author, while making these discussions, first of all, it should be reminded that Marx was, first and foremost, a "working class revolutionary". Özalp, who discusses Marx's first model of revolution and the changes he later made in this model, presents some of the basic theses of Capital, which is "a revolutionary's critique of capitalism", and discusses how those waging a revolutionary struggle in the 21st century should approach the experience of the Soviet Union, and explains how this experience It focuses on the possibilities of the new era that will enable it to be overcome.
Discussing the current political tasks of the Turkish left in particular in the last chapter, the author summarizes the goal of the book in one sentence as follows: "To contribute to the debate on how to pave the way for revolutions that will be the work of the masses and enable people to govern themselves, as Marx predicted, in the 21st century."
