According to Si Maqian's Records of the Historian, he briefly served as a lowly official in the gardening department and rejected an offer to rule the Chu Principality. It is known that he lived a simple and poor life throughout his life. The Zhuangzi texts are thought to explain Daoism more comprehensively than the Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching). Zhuangzi's teachings also had a significant impact on Chinese Buddhism.
