Richard, once a cavalry captain but now penniless, enlists the help of his army friend Twinnings to find work. But times have changed: tanks have replaced horses, and businessmen have replaced heroic soldiers. Fortunately, Twinnings arranges for Richard to meet with Zapparoni, a mysterious inventor and businessman. Zapparoni has enormous power in many areas, from automaton manufacturing to the film industry, and he needs someone like Richard for some jobs. The meeting will take place in Zapparoni's mansion, which is both full of technological wonders and completely integrated with nature.
