Sociology of Religion
Although known as a Neo-Hegelian, Hans Freyer, who was also influenced by Marx, Dilthey, Husserl, Max Weber and Simmel, made significant contributions to social philosophy and especially to the development of social science on its main path as a science of reality, with his creative and tireless work.
The year Freyer published his work titled Sociology as the Science of Reality (Soziologieals Wirtschaftswissenschaft, 1930); Joachim Wach, a German theologian and a leading figure in the sociology of religion, dedicated his Introduction to the Sociology of Religion (Einführungin die Religionssoziologie, 1930) to Freyer. Eight years later, social scientist Alfredo Povina from the University of Buenos Aires in Latin America published Sociology as the Science of Reality (Sociologiacomeciencia de realidad, 1939), which was influenced by Freyer. His years of service at Istanbul and especially at Ankara University in the 1950s were a great opportunity for Turkey to bring sociology to the understanding of the science of reality.
The book Sociology of Religion, another product of Hans Freyer's productive work in Turkey, offers a serious perspective on how the subject should be handled in an area that is difficult to define and draw a framework by delving into the broad material and spiritual interaction areas of societies.
