  • Istanbul, where nearly three million Kurds are estimated to live, is considered the 'largest Kurdish city' in the world. The capital of empires where many cultures and civilizations lived together, it has also been the 'cultural capital' of the Kurds. Since the end of the 19th century, this city has been the center of the Kurdish intelligentsia and its political and cultural activities. At the beginning of the nationalization process, Kurds broke many firsts in this city.     Kurds begin to come to Istanbul with the "conquest" in 1453. While the Kurdish population, which was around 30 thousand in the 1900s, has reached 3 million today, that is, increased a hundredfold, Istanbul is starting to regain its former position. In this work, Rohat Alakom presents sections from the nearly 500-year period from 1453 to 1925, from the conquest to the republic, and sheds light on the Kurds' "conquest" of Istanbul.
