The Origins of Human Destructiveness
Aggression is not a spontaneous reaction as long as it exists biologically in our genes; It is a defense against threats to man's vital interests, in other words, his development, and the existence of himself and his species. This defensive aggression was relatively small under certain primitive conditions, when humans did not threaten each other much. Man has made extraordinary progress since then. It is a reasonable assumption to think that man will complete this process and establish a society in which no one is threatened: the children of parents, the parents of superiors, a social class does not threaten another social class, a nation does not threaten another nation. Achieving this goal is very difficult due to economic, political, cultural and spiritual reasons. An additional difficulty is created by the fact that the nations of the world worship separate idols and therefore do not understand each other, even if they understand each other's languages. It would be foolish to ignore these difficulties, but as empirical research covering all the data reveals, it is indeed possible to establish such a world in the near future if political and spiritual obstacles are eliminated.
