İSMAİL HAKKI İZMİRLİ (1868-1946) was one of the first scholars in Turkey to study Islamic sciences with Western methods. He thinks that the Greek philosophy, which the ancient theology opposed, no longer exists, so a new science of theology should be established, using positive sciences and the data of the new philosophy, but opposing the corrupt views of the new philosophy. This book has been classified and simplified using various copies of his lecture notes. History of Islamic Philosophy is the history of Islamic thoughts. In this, the issues that have been discussed in Islamic thought since the century of happiness are discussed with the methods of modern philosophy and sciences. It is aimed to obtain a consistent opinion about Muslims' views on religion, morality, civilization and politics, their sciences and knowledge, customs and traditions, how the old philosophy (felsefe-i kadîme) was passed on to Muslims, how it was understood, what phases it went through, which philosophical theories were accepted. An attempt is made to show which one has been corrected or which has been refuted or not. The relationship between Tawhid and Kalam, ethics and Sufism, and philosophy, the influence of philosophy in these fields, and the emergence and development of these sciences are pondered. The intellectual developments of Islamic thinkers, the characteristics of their philosophies, their scientific endeavors, their efforts in the search for truth and goodness, and the paths followed by those who pursue perverted views and secret goals are discussed. By comparing the paths of Islamic philosophy and the new philosophy, it is tried to reveal the direction that the new philosophy, theology, and Sufism will take.
