A Woman in Her Aphrodite Incense, published in 1937, is one of the pioneering works that brings the problems of the poor and working segments of society into literature. It skillfully and realistically displays the lives of the workers, their relationships with the boss, and the double exploitation of working and poor women. The main heroine of the novel is a parentless girl named Yildiz, who grew up with relatives. Due to the corrupt home environment and the humiliating events he suffered, he runs away from home and works first as a typist and then as a factory worker. But low wages and hard working conditions are always accompanied by attempts to exploit her femininity. Yıldız marries an old factory worker. But he finds it difficult to support his wife and child, who falls ill and is unable to work, and when he knocks on the doors to ask for help, he encounters ugly offers from the boss and foremen; She is forced into prostitution. While we watch Yıldız's tragedy, we also witness the life of the laborers and the poor with all its nakedness and harsh reality. The workers whose even low wages are paid in brand and fabric, their terrible poverty, young girls who cannot stand the conditions and develop tuberculosis, whose femininity is constantly attacked, and the working conditions of underground mine workers are revealed. Suat Dervis described this work, which Nazim Hikmet considered "the cornerstone of Turkish literature", as "one of the most beautiful novels written in the Turkish language".
