XVIII. century, France. Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, the hero of the book, is someone who is devoid of all humane feelings, is only unusually sensitive to smells, and does not even hesitate to commit murder in order to produce the smells he wants. This young man, who is a real genius at smelling everyone and everything and producing all the scents he wants, his world falls apart the day he realizes that he has no smell of his own and therefore people cannot smell him. The only way out is to wear scents that will remind others of your existence.
He could not exist as an individual in society; But the last part of this magnificent allegory, which displays a genius who can create anything he wants except his own self, achieved with extraordinary fluency, is the narrative of a human tragedy whose similarity can only be seen in Kafka's work.
