Famous Kurdologist Thomas Bois, who translated RP Giuseppe Campanile's 'History of Kurdistan', one of the oldest texts of Kurdology, from Italian to French, states the following in the preface:
In 1818, Strade Tribunale in Naples, no. A book called Storia della Regione del Kurdistan e dele sette religione ivi esistenti was printed at the Fernandes Brothers Printing House, address 287. Despite its title, this is more of a history of Kurdistan in the 19th century than a proper history book. It is merely a depiction of the dawn of the century. The author undoubtedly recalls some ancient events, such as the founding of Amêdi in ancient times and the more recent founding of Sulaymaniyah, or the so-called conversion of the Güneşetaparlar of Mardin to the Yakubi sect; but his intention seems more to be to inform us about the customs he identified, the events he witnessed, and the more or less important people he encountered. What he describes about geography, economic situation, social and religious life is accurate without going into details and has not changed much since then because the author knows these lands well, having traveled every inch of them for about twelve years. In this case, his testimony is interesting, especially considering that he was one of the first Europeans to live among the Kurds. With the exception of Niebuhr, who participated in a scientific expedition before him (1766), all travelers who passed through Kurdistan made their journey after the author, and no matter how valuable the information they gave, However, it is incomplete and not organized in a general tabular form like his.
