This book presents a different picture of Lenin than that seen in most discussions on Marxism. By looking closely at the Hegel Notebooks he wrote in 1914-1915, it is argued that Lenin's post-1914 works, especially his studies on dialectics, brought him closer to Hegelian or 'Western' Marxists than to orthodox Marxists.
The work attempts to open a discussion about Lenin's Marxism and Marxist theory in general, while subjecting Lenin's thought to a friendly yet critical evaluation. According to the author, discussion of Lenin's thought should be freed from the narrow confines of both Marxist-Leninist 'sanctification' and the disrespectful and hostile approaches of Western critics. This book will also serve as an example of the ongoing contemporary relevance of dialectical thought; It will show the importance of dialectical thought for Lenin, one of the most important figures in the history of the revolution.
As a result, this book was written with the future in mind, not the past. If Marxist thought is to renew itself and become assertive again, it must critically grasp the legacy of Lenin, the greatest figure of the post-Marx generation. That's what this book tries to do.
