After Liberalism
THE LAST DECADE OF THE TWENTITH CENTURY. Will it be remembered as "the years of the collapse of Communism and the victory of Liberalism" in the future? Immanuel Wallerstein claims that it was Liberalism itself that collapsed in the 1990s. The triple ideological system, listed from left to right as "Socialism, Liberalism, Conservatism" since the French Revolution, is actually three images of Liberalism, which is the dominant and central ideology worldwide, and with the collapse of the "left" wing of this system, its legitimacy and validity as a whole have been lost worldwide. He says he lost it. What can states that have lost their ideological constitutionalism do to survive in the 21st century? More importantly, within what ideological framework and within what kind of structure can anti-system forces that have lost their "left" tradition be organized in the same period? Wallerstein predicts that the "new world order", which became "unipolar" with the collapse of the USSR, will reorganize in the near future on the axes of the USA-Japan and the European Union, Russia, and will begin to seek a new legitimacy on this basis. The fate of the forces against exploitation and in favor of freedom depends on what they do in this restructuring process. Will we try to resurrect old anti-system movements, which are a "left" derivative of liberalism, or will we seek a new structure and legitimacy for freedom, equality and democracy? According to Wallerstein, these are the first and vital questions of the 21st century.
