Cyprus in the Grip of Nationalism

Büyükada or Homeland... Cyprus is an island trying to exist in the grip of two nationalisms that could not determine its own destiny or tried to determine its own destiny according to the fate and destiny of two "homelands". On the one hand, the extreme edge of the border in the territorial expansion of Greek nationalism, and on the other hand, the new "Hatay" of Turkish nationalism... The nationalists, who have determined the conditions of existence of the two communities in Cyprus for a very long time, prefer to live their lives depending on the fate of the "homeland" rather than allowing the two communities to live their own unique destinies. they preferred. While Greek Cypriot nationalism wanted the island to be accepted as a part of Greece, Turkish Cypriot nationalism wanted it to be the standard of Turkey. Of course, these choices were considered vital for the different nation-state building processes in Greece and Turkey, both for their own projects and for the "future" plans of the two communities on the island. Nationalists on the island sometimes wanted the "homeland" to accept it while defending their own model, and sometimes the "homeland" tried to use Cyprus as a trump card in their own foreign policy manoeuvres. Cyprus was also presented in the 20th century as a good example of an approach to international relations that said "there are some problems and they cannot be solved".
