Nikolay Vasilyevich Gogol (1809-1852): He was born in Ukraine, into a middle-class landowner family. The village life and Cossack traditions that influenced his childhood were reflected in his works, and he wrote stories embroidered with elements of Ukrainian folk culture. He is famous in Russian literature with his sense of humor, realistic attitude and lively narration. He became the pioneer of an important innovation. This innovation was shaped by his thoughts on pessimism in the face of life and the evil of the world, as well as humor, in his Evening Meetings on a Farm Near Dikanka, Petersburg Stories and Mirgorod Stories. He mercilessly mocked corrupt bureaucrats in his play The Inspector.
