Honorable Exit
We all live in ideological “neighbourhoods”. Even if we are moderate or radical, we cannot leave a certain circle. We cannot communicate with people we consider "other". In fact, we are constantly in conflict. These distinctions and differences inevitably turn into discrimination. If we try to establish a dialogue with the other, those from our own neighborhood say: “Wow! He sold the case! Traitor! He's trying to please the others!..” The people in the other neighborhood say: “He couldn't hold on in his own neighborhood, he's approaching us! He's here for personal gain! Not from us!..”
Result: We cannot leave the neighborhood and cross into Turkey. Think of a building, a group lives in each room. Nobody comes down to the hall. He doesn't meet others. The point is to leave the room and go down to the living room. This does not mean selling the cause or giving up on yourself. It is to accept that we can solve Turkey's problems together, by joining hands and by making compromises. If we go down to the living room, people in our own neighborhood and those in other neighborhoods say words and behave in ways that harm our dignity. So, how will this work?
How can we leave our cage, our room, our neighborhood while preserving our dignity?
Levent Gültekin, based on his own adventure, says that an "Honourable Exit" is possible.
It appeals to the reader and reaches out with an extremely sincere, mind-opening and surprising narrative.
