Coat
Gogol's The Overcoat tells the tragicomic story of an "obscure" character on the margins of social life, an ordinary "civil servant" named Akakiy Akakiyevich. This story, in which the tragic and the funny are skillfully brought together, has deeply influenced both Russian literature and world literature with the character it creates. Akakiyevich is a civil servant who is drawn into the bureaucratic mechanisms of modern life, has financial difficulties, is afraid of losing his job, and is constantly humiliated, oppressed and despised by the people around him. The only action he performs himself is the work he does "with enthusiasm":
In this job, that is, copying letters, he found a different, pleasant world that belonged only to himself. The happiness he felt while doing his job could be seen on his face; Some letters were his favorite, and when it was his turn to write these letters, he would get carried away, blink his eyes, smile and seem to help his pen with his lips. By looking at his face, it was easy to understand which letter was flowing from the tip of his pen.
Akakiyevich, who needs a coat to protect himself from the cold of the winter, finds it difficult to acquire this coat, and his whole life turns upside down, and the funny gives way to the tragic...
