Tan - An Opposition Newspaper Under the Management of Serteller Book Description Tan newspaper is one of the important representatives of left-wing publishing in the history of Turkish press (1935-1945). The newspaper, which includes important names of the Turkish left such as Zekeriya Sertel, Sabiha Sertel, Muvaffak Şeref, Niyazi Berkes, Mediha Berkes, Pertev Naili Boratav, Esat Adil Müstecaplıoğlu, Hulusi Dos Doğru, Cami Baykurt, Behice Boran, Sabahattin Ali, Aziz Nesin, among its writers, is a newspaper that supports the single-party government. and became the spokesperson of the opposition circles in the country during the difficult days of the Second World War. On the one hand, it followed a publication policy against Nazism, fascism and imperialism, and on the other hand, it defended concepts such as multi-party regime, human rights, democracy, freedom and pluralism. Contrary to the dominant press approach of the period, Tan was never a ruling newspaper. He paid the price for this with a brutal lynching and destruction attempt on December 4, 1945. This incident, known as the Tan raid, which caused the newspaper to cease publication, was actually a lynching and destruction attempt not only against Tana and Sertels but also against freedom of thought, expression and press. In this respect, Tan's story is also the story of the struggle for press freedom and democracy in Turkey. While Hülya Öztekin's study, which set out to examine the diagnosis, sheds light on the period in which the newspaper was published, it also offers readers and researchers the opportunity to read important processes of Turkey's political history, such as the single-party National Chief period, the Second World War, and the transition to a multi-party regime, through the newspaper pages.
