The Meaning of Truth Book Description William James (1842-1910): William James, the founder of the pragmatic school of philosophy, was also a psychologist and educator. He studied German and French in Europe. He graduated from Harvard University as a medical doctor in 1869, but did not practice medicine. Later, he started teaching psychology courses at the same university. He was interested in epistemology, education, metaphysics, psychology and religion. Principles of Psychology, which he started writing as a textbook, has been among the monumental works of both psychology and philosophy since it was published in 1890. The Meaning of Truth, which collected all of James's writings "directly related to the problem of truth", in his own words, was published in 1909, a year before his death. In The Meaning of Truth, James's nine articles on the same subject, written before his work Pragmatism, and his six articles responding to criticisms of Pragmatism are listed in chronological order.
