Shame: A Socio-Cultural Phenomenon
In this book, Istanbul University Faculty of Political Sciences faculty member Murat Önderman looks at the ways in which culture is implemented through dominant cultural preferences and examines the subjective, social, intersubjective and collective aspects of shame, which he treats as a socio-cultural phenomenon.
This study, which sheds light on the cultural formation of the unconscious and the social context of the self, focuses on the internal and external mechanisms through which the normative effect of culture on individual and social behavior occurs and to which cultural influences these mechanisms are open.
With its rich source of interdisciplinary texts and Murat Önderman's unique style , Shame: A Socio-Cultural Phenomenon examines shame as a social control mechanism and clarifies our mental world by including many sayings and proverbs that have a place in our language on this subject.
