Lover of the Year 2000
'Those were the times when I read Refik Halid's novels with bated breath. I read Today's Courtier several times and could never get enough of it. That's why I remember some of its scenes by heart. I also liked the Female Spider, which reminds me of her. Especially Nilgün became my bedside book for a while. As for The Lover of the Year 2000, after reading five or ten pages, it completely surprised me. Traveling back to the past in a time slip... In fact, everything starts with the most ordinary novel scenes:
Fahir and Güldal, the young man and the young girl who do not know each other, will board the Ankara-Istanbul train from İskenderun Train Station. Nasal burning scents from eucalyptus trees. Season, end of spring. Güldal and Fahir will obviously see eye to eye soon.
They are coming, but as I said before, they undergo a time shift:
Theirs is not a lightning love. According to Fahir's claim, the love, passion and twinship of the heart has been going on since 2000.
Thus, the novel has the opportunity to expand to a period of 2000 years and Refik Halid Karay explains it sweetly.'
