Family Happiness

Tolstoy's autobiographical novella, Family Happiness, is a shining example of the author's early works. Tolstoy wrote Family Happiness in 1859, inspired by his love affair with a rich and orphaned young girl named Valeria Arseneva in 1856. Family Happiness, which tells the story of seventeen-year-old Masa, who marries Sergey Mikhailovich, who is older than her, and how she has to reconsider her naive expectations about marriage, is also a precursor to the themes of Tolstoy's two major novels, War and Peace and Anna Karenina. .
