Conversations of German Immigrants
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832): He is one of the most important writers of German literature. He studied law, dealt with painting and natural sciences, conducted research and wrote articles. His first novels, The Sorrows of Young Werther and Poetry and Truth, are among his most notable works. Many of his works, such as Roman Lamentations and Faust, attracted great attention when they were published and reinforced the author's centuries-long literary reputation. The axis of the narrative in Conversations of German Immigrants is the conversations of a group of German nobles who were away from their homes during the War of the First Coalition (1792-1797). Goethe conveys his views on many subjects, from literature to education, from politics to morality, through the stories and tales told in these conversations.
