Suicide was a concept that occupied Stefan Zweig's mind since his youth. He said during his university years that he could end his own life when he realized that there was no point in living. Stefan Zweig, who forced his wife Friederike to commit suicide with him during his first marriage, then gave up this idea, ended his life with his second wife years later, during the Second World War. Even though the author has given up on his previous suicide attempts, he still inflicts his fears on the heroes in his novels and stories. The common theme of the stories in Amok Runner is suicide. We see that Stefan Zweig reflects his sensitive personality and extraordinary power of observation on the pages in these stories, which he wrote by adding sections from his own life or the lives of real people in history. In this book, which contains the most successful examples of the stories he wrote, the long story Amok Runner is a masterpiece. Stefan Zweig is a writer who knows how to deal with people in their weakest and most defenseless aspects, delve into the deepest layers of the human soul, write all of this with a very vivid, detailed and versatile expression, and can really impress the reader. Even though so many years have passed since his writings, the fact that his stories and novels are read with the same interest by today's generations is the biggest proof that he is a permanent writer. This new translation of Amok Runner also includes stories that were not included in the previous edition.
