Why Did Europe Conquer the World?
Between 1492 and 1914, Europeans conquered 84 percent of the world. But why were the Europeans the ones who managed to dominate the world, even though the Chinese, Japanese, Ottomans and South Asians were much more advanced for centuries? In this book, Philip Hoffman shows that traditional explanations (such as geography, infectious diseases, and the industrial revolution) are inadequate to answer this question. Instead, he argues that economic and political history played a very important role in this process, pointing out that if some variables had been different, Europe's hands would have been tied and another power would have become the master of the world. It sheds light on two millennia of economic, political and historical changes that put European states on a different path of development, military competition and war. Hoffman states that this different course of development gave Europeans the opportunity to surpass other civilizations in the firearm technology they later learned and lay a foundation on which they would establish world domination.
In this book, our readers who are interested in history, politics and economy will be able to answer the question "Why Europe?" We think they will find a satisfactory answer to the question.
“It is a very interesting work that contributes to the theme of world history, which attracts great attention today.”
