Shadows of the Brain
"At the end of this long discussion that we devoted to the problem of subjectivity, we say the following, based on neuro-biological (neuro-scientific), neurological and psychiatric case situations: In our naive realistic attitude, we perceive external pain, that red tomato on the table, our consciousness, our body, space, distant stars, other people. This world, which includes trees, our sense of 'I' and many other things, is a phenomenal world that is ontologically identical to the neural activities that establish it in the brain. Since the brain is a biological organ, not a subject, this phenomenal world has no founding subject and represents physical reality in its own presentation form. It is epiphenomenal in that it has no physical-causal effect on the neural activities to which it is identical.
