The Guide to Wisdom and the Art of Cunning
Life becomes more complex and unstable every day. We cannot measure the depth of anything in human relations, we constantly experience fluctuations in our opinions, including those closest to us, and we are constantly disappointed. When we finally turn inward, tired of these disappointments, we find ourselves spelling out: How should I live so that constant disappointment is not my fate in everything I do, and regret does not always knock on my door with every step I take? With this question, we begin to realize that it is a way of living according to our desire, leaving aside all kinds of measures and principles that make our lives so shaky and turbulent. In the end, even though it costs a lot, we learn that living is too dangerous a job to joke about.
Now, although we cannot tell anyone, we confess to ourselves that we need short and concise sayings about these depths, as well as the regrets and disappointments we frequently experience, and unchangeable and unshakable life principles despite this shaky and turbulent life. Even more than that, we see that we are looking for ways to learn lessons by turning what life has taught us at great expense into experience. As can be understood from the name on its cover, the book claims to include both these lessons and the life wisdom of ancient times between its covers.
In this capacity, Schopenhauer presents it as 'a handbook to be constantly consulted, a life companion', and Nietzsche hails it as a 'success' that has no precedent in this field in European thought.
