Bir Devlet Geleneğinin Anatomisi-Ciltli
The overwhelming majority of historians writing about the Ottoman Empire agree that religion played an important role in the establishment of the empire. In the last periods of the empire, it is claimed that the main reason for 'underdevelopment' was religion! Of course, it is not possible to understand how someone who played a 'progressive' or 'positive' role in one period became the main cause of 'reactionism', 'negativity' and 'evil' in another period. Such approaches arise from misunderstanding about religion and its function, or from lack of knowledge (of course, ignorance is not an excuse). In fact, religion is nothing but an ideology in the final analysis. The Ottoman social formation, like its predecessors and those similar to it, was based on an ideological justification based on religion.
