Deniz Deniz
Deniz Charles Arrowby, the main character of Deniz, is an aging famous theater actor who one day decided to retire to a house by the sea. He suffers from a problem called Prospero Syndrome: As an actor, he is an intriguing character; not only from the perspective of the audience, but also from the perspective of his colleagues. Now, thinks Arrowby, surrendering to their powers; It is time to live perfectly in seclusion, in harmony with nature, swimming and walking, preparing simple but eccentric meals, writing a diary/memoir/novel by reflecting on life and the past (he cannot decide what his writings will be). He is shyly literary and theatrical when evaluating the task he has undertaken:
But the real events of my life are in the past and there is nothing to do now except "remember in tranquility". To regret a life spent with egoism? Not exactly like that, but something like that. Of course, I never said that to the ladies and gentlemen of the theater; They would die of laughter.
(...) Deniz Deniz is a very beautiful, complex and ironic novel that confronts us with our main demons: Fear, jealousy, arrogance, envy, the pain and chaos of love for the wrong person; the instinct to use violence, whether on the battlefield or in the privacy of our homes. It is not possible to extract a single theme in such a work...
