How Was the Modern Middle East Shaped? In this book, retired ambassador Temel Iskit, who held very important positions in his career of diplomacy for more than forty years, discusses in detail the formation, through diplomatic means, of the political and economic foundations on which the Modern Middle East was built, which began during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and was shaped during the establishment of the Republic of Turkey. In this work, the author does not attempt, in his own words, "an objective attempt at history"; It examines in detail the diplomatic ways and games of the period, which were decisive in shaping this history, together with the actors who played a role in the complex labyrinths of Middle Eastern politics. Although it would undoubtedly be convenient to refer to the "Sykes-Picot Order", which is the most familiar explanation in the analysis of this history, and to explain this entire complex structure only with the driving forces of this order, according to the author, the problem is not that simple and straightforward. When interpreting what is happening in the Middle East today, it is necessary to look at the complex factors beyond this reduction and the different dynamics they create, the political aims of local actors, and the policies pursued by great powers and imperialism in different periods. Temel Iskit emphasizes that it is necessary to diplomatically interpret the correspondence between McMahon and Mecca Emir Serif Hussein, the Balfour Declaration, and the Paris and San Remo conferences, as well as Sykes-Picot, in shaping the Modern Middle East; It examines Arab nationalism in the Middle East, the development of Zionism, and the Ottoman Declaration of Jihad, on which Germany pinned its hopes at the beginning of the First World War. While browsing through the pages of The Power of Diplomacy - The Shaping of the Modern Middle East, written in a fluent and comfortable language; Many political and military figures, from Serif Hüseyin to King Faisal, from Cemal Pasa to Lord Kitchener, from Theodor Herzl to Haim Weizmann, from Mark Sykes to Georges Picot, from TE Lawrence to Gertrude Bell... You will also see in detail the actor's roles in this "shaping". We believe that this important work will fill an important gap in understanding what is happening in the Middle East today.
