Towards an Ecological Society Book Description The articles in this book are, in short, an attempt to capture the essence of the ecological problems we face today: namely, domination in social relations and competition in economic relations. Because of the current touting about the virtues of capitalism and free competition, which we hear from many socialists in Europe and the United States, not to mention the German Greens and politically naïve environmentalists in many parts of the world, the anti-hierarchical and anti-capitalist orientation of all these articles is of all kinds. It is much more important today than it was twenty years ago, when the left at least came together on a ground against modern capitalism. So what is it about this book that unites seemingly separate topics such as social ecology, urbanization, new technologies for a rational society, Marxism, and a new politics? All these articles give different expressions to a single theme: the need for a consistent, emancipatory and dialectical perspective. If I have only one crime, it is that I have tried to defend a revolutionary tradition consistently and without falling into dogmatism or sectarianism and to give it a flexibility that today finds its full expression in the recent developments of capitalism.
