Economic Crisis and the Left

Socialist Register 2012 is the sequel to Socialist Register 2011, titled This Time the Crisis. This Time in Crisis, it was stated that economic crises can become turning points that bring with them political opportunities, but so far the ruling classes, not the left, have benefited from the opened political space. In the 2012 issue titled Economic Crisis and the Left, this analysis covers a wide geography stretching from Latin America to the Middle East, from China to Europe, and on the other hand, a crisis fed by both the crisis in the public sector and the climate crisis. New accumulation strategies that point to an age of austerity are discussed and deepened. A symposium consisting of three articles on how the left should respond to the eurozone crisis offers readers the opportunity to evaluate the left's position in the crisis in more detail.
The discussions opened in this issue about the strategic opportunities open to the left will continue in Socialist Register 2013 with questions about socialist strategies to be followed in the 21st century.
