Although not many people think of it today, one of the alphabets used in writing Turkish is the Armenian alphabet. Writing Turkish with Armenian letters was widely used by Armenians in the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey until the mid-20th century. In addition to some official documents addressed to Armenians, a Turkish literature with Armenian letters was formed and newspapers and magazines were published. Among the Turkish works in the Armenian alphabet, there are also poems and epics of Armenian minstrels (asug in Armenian parlance), stories and novels, literary translations from Western languages and tombstone inscriptions. The book, which constitutes the second volume of the series Contributions to History from Armenian Sources, brings together Kevork Pamukciyan's articles in which he gives examples from Turkish texts with Armenian letters. The articles in this volume not only serve to promote this literature, but also shed light on many historical events, especially the great fires of Istanbul and Edirne. ...
