Faith in Pharaoh
In Pharaoh Imani, Tarik Bugra novelizes the problematic of the War of Independence and the establishment of the Republic, this time in the context of the eve of the Battle of Sakarya and the period immediately following. The heroes are again types that represent the "ordinary" people or the second and third most important people of the period. The novel is about the founding staff of the Republic, which was shaped around the indisputable leadership of Mustafa Kemal, and the formation of the national-conservative discontent, reaction and opposition that was taking shape within the Kuvayi Milliye movement itself, against his will. It is known that this reaction and opposition, in the following years, instead of directly confronting Mustafa Kemal and his "revolutions", adopted a political discourse that expressed this with implications placed within an anti-communism literature. In this respect, the fact that the national-conservative reaction and opposition in Pharaoh Imani is expressed towards and through the Sovietist and communist types of the 1920s heralds the later years of the Republic.
