Two Blind Men

Jorge Luis Borges is born in Buenos Aires. Cemil Meriç meets the earth and the sky in Reyhanli district of Hatay. Despite this, they are very similar to each other, including their anger and irony, including being exposed to the cruelty of other children since primary school.

The fact that they both started literature with poetry, gave up poetry at almost the same time, focused on books with a similar passion but a little too much, met with blindness almost in the same year, and finally died a year and a day apart, are just some of these similarities.

That being the case, I wonder why one of them was limited to the possibilities of being Cemil Meriç, while the other, as we know him, was able to carry a rosary to the mountains of Jorge Luis Borges? Although Borges, who wrote in Spanish, could make his voice heard to the world, why did Cemil Meriç, who wrote in Turkish, mean nothing to anyone outside the borders of the National Pact?

When Jorge Luis Borges was finally faced with the blindness he had been waiting for with great trust, he accepted it as an inevitable irony of God and did not think of complaining; Why was Cemil Meriç, who forgot the word tolerance, let alone trust, getting into a fight with Nemesis even before leaving Paris? In classical terms, which was Eastern and which was Western?

Was it language, religion or geography that was decisive? Perhaps there was another element beyond or above these, which dragged the human labyrinth into bright mornings or dark abysses...
