The murders committed in Paris in January 2015 rightly caused a great reaction, but they also increased public prejudices and confusion about the presence of Muslims in Europe. What is needed most in Europe now is people who do not think of the existence of Muslims through opposing categories. to develop common sense. Nilüfer Göle interprets the results of her field research, which brought together ordinary immigrant Muslims and their non-Muslim neighbors and fellow citizens, Europeans, in face-to-face discussion meetings in 21 European cities between 2009 and 2013. The aim of the research is to examine the prayers performed on the streets, minarets, mosques, published in Denmark. The aim was to investigate the reactions to various debates that emerged in the European public sphere on issues such as cartoons, women's headscarves and chadors, sharia, halal food products, some works of art, Jews and relations with Judaism. Thanks to his original research method, Göle challenges many stereotypes and shows that all these debates actually paradoxically contribute to the emergence of an alternative public culture: from Islamic hip-hop to halal ham, today's European Muslims adapt their modern lifestyles in accordance with Islam. They are structuring and this structuring is not contradictory with the cultural values of Europe. This cultural hybridization created by the intertwining of Europe and Islam has both Jihadist and Islamophobic enemies. However, we can be hopeful. The most effective antidote against the gangrene they create is in the potential of society building, a collage of differences Rather than making them, it lies in weaving them like a carpet. The exceptional feature of Europe must be sought in its creative freedom, in its capacity to always reinvent itself with the Other.

European Muslims in Everyday Life: A Research on Islamic Conflicts in the European Public Sphere The murders in Paris in January 2015 rightly provoked a huge outcry, but they also increased public prejudice and confusion about the presence of Muslims in Europe. What is needed most in Europe now is to develop common sense that does not think of the existence of Muslims through opposing categories. Nilüfer Göle interprets the results of her field research, which brought together ordinary immigrant Muslims and their non-Muslim neighbors and fellow countrymen, fundamental Europeans, in face-to-face discussion meetings in 21 European cities between 2009 and 2013. The aim of the research was to investigate the reactions to various debates that have emerged in the European public sphere on issues such as street prayer, minarets, mosques, cartoons published in Denmark, women's headscarves and chadors, sharia, halal food products, some works of art, Jews and relations with Judaism. Thanks to his original research method, Göle challenges many stereotypes and shows that all these debates actually paradoxically contribute to the emergence of an alternative public culture: from Islamic hip-hop to halal ham, today's European Muslims are converting their modern lifestyles to Islam. They structure it appropriately and this configuration is not contradictory to European cultural values. This cultural hybridization created by the intertwining of Europe and Islam has both Jihadist and Islamophobic enemies. But we can be hopeful. The most effective antidote to the gangrene they create lies in the potential of community building, in weaving differences like a tapestry rather than making a collage of them.
