Self and Id Beyond the Pleasure Principle

These two articles of Freud, which we have published together, are texts that point to turning points in his intellectual development, are closely related to each other, and have historical importance. Beyond the Pleasure Principle marks a transformation in psychoanalytic drive theory and makes human aggression the subject of psychoanalysis for the first time, as a motivation as important as sexuality. This thesis will also form the axis of a fundamental differentiation in psychoanalysis: Important discussions have arisen between those who agree with this thesis, such as Melanie Klein and Otto Kernberg, and those who oppose it, such as Erich Fromm and Heinz Kohut. Me and Id is the article on which the foundation of Structural Theory was laid; It is also one of the most important texts that explains why and how the Oedipus complex affects human personality and neurotic development.
