Special Committees are one of the characteristic phenomena of the founding process of the Republic. They were formed in the autumn of 1923 with the aim of liquidating the officers who took a hostile stance in the War of Independence or did not participate in it, or who were from the "population" of the countries outside Turkey's new borders and tended to maintain ties with that country. This extraordinary judicial rate became the basis for a hot showdown regarding the War of Independence during its operation, but especially in the negotiations held in the Turkish Grand National Assembly while the establishment law was being passed. Very frank - and sometimes impulsive - evaluations are made due to the "freshness" of the events. Ideas about the criteria of treason and patriotism, as well as the definition of the new Turkey, Turkishness, and "nation" are expressed.
Cemil Koçak, whose meticulous research skills the readers know from his work during the National Chief Period and General Inspectors' Offices, presents in this book a breakdown of the decisions and practices of the Special Committee and the relevant Parliamentary discussions. The author enriches his evaluation with the articles of Mete Tunçay and Fahri Çoker on the subject, as well as the memoirs of Bezmi Nusret Kaygusuz and Cemil Topuzlu, two of the Heyeti Mahsusa prisoners.
