Persuasion, Jane Austen's last novel completed before her death, is based on a touching love story set in Bath, where the author spent troubled years. 'Persuasion', which gives the novel its name, is one of the main topics covered. The heroine of the novel, the beautiful, sensitive and kind-hearted Anne Elliot, is the middle daughter of Sir Walter, who is arrogant and fond of money and position; Her family persuades the young girl to leave Wentworth, the young navy captain she was engaged to and loved when she was 19 years old. The reason is that the captain is broke and does not come from a noble family. When the young man returned eight years later, he made a fortune with the money he earned in the wars he participated in and was promoted in the navy. Anne, who is twenty-seven years old, is now considered a spinster. Even though the two young people could not forget each other, the Captain did not forgive Anne. What will be the result of the environment's interventions and persuasion efforts this time? While Jane Austen criticizes the society she lives in ironically and harshly, she also opens a wide window to early 19th century England and the views of the British middle class on family, marriage, wealth and position.
