  • Galip brings his childhood sweetheart, his friend, his uncle's daughter, his lover and his lost wife, Rüya, to a snowy place. He starts searching in Istanbul on a winter day. The columns of his close relative, journalist Celâl, whose writings he has admired since his childhood, will send him signs and accompany him in this search. While the reader, on the one hand, follows Galip's research and the people he encounters in Istanbul, where every chimney, every street, and every person turns into a sign of another mysterious world, on the other hand, he encounters Celâl's columns, which complement these researches with different signs and strange stories. From the stories of old executioners to the disaster days when the waters of the Bosphorus will recede, from disguised pashas to the mysterious murders left in our cultural history, from the love stories of snowy nights to the secrets of meaning on our faces, from the remote and dark corners of Istanbul to the ridiculous and strange people, from our recent history to the forgotten and surprising details of our daily lives. This investigation will draw Galip towards both his missing wife and the lost mystery in which our lives are buried.

"With Kara Kitap, Pamuk proved that the novel is still alive as a literary genre and that it still has potential and a future. It's been a while since anyone made these."
