Mansion for Rent
Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, in his first novel Kiralık Konak, describes the thoughts, feelings and world that occur between generations with Westernization in our society. He gives his disagreements around the disintegration of a host, based on the concept of social disintegration. In the mansion that was put up for sale, some of the people who were scattered to different places with this change, in a process of rupture extending from the Tanzimat to the Constitutional Monarchy, went from being modest and honorable people who wore Istanbullin, to becoming - in the novelist's words - "hypocritical, half-servant and vulgar" with the frock coats they wore on their backs. They become representatives of the generation.
