Kürt Sorununu Yeniden Düşünmek
What went wrong? Where to next?
We present the 6th edition of Mustafa Akyol's book, which was published in 2006 and attracted great attention, with a new foreword titled "Three Styles of Politics for the 21st Century", in which the author evaluates the current changes and developments on the "Kurdish Question":
"Since the Kurdish Question is a major social issue that contains a strong vein of ethnic nationalism, it is perhaps more accurate to discuss how it should be 'managed' rather than how it should be 'solved'."
Recently, a very critical phase of this management effort has been underway: the 'peace process' between the Turkish state and the PKK, which started in 2013. Although there are differences of opinion on the government and PKK fronts regarding the course of this process, the essence of the matter lies in the PKK's ending of terrorism and Turkey's further democratization.
So, what does 'democratization' mean? What constitutional and legal reforms should be made? As a result, should Türkiye turn into a different country than it was before? If it will transform, how much and to where?
"These questions lead us to a deeper, more comprehensive and more permanent discussion than the disarmament of the PKK: the discussion of the 'identity' of 21st century Turkey."
