- This book, which is one of the first examples of ethnological research on the material culture of the Kurds, emerged as a result of many years of research aimed at finding a general ethno-cultural pattern in Kurdistan and the neighboring regions of the Near East, where the Kurdish ethnic population lives. The author focuses on some national and cultural characteristics that have been historically shaped by the interaction between Kurdish culture and the cultures of other neighboring communities in the Caucasus, Anatolia and Asia. Field research conducted between the 1950s and 1980s on the Kurds who have long been indigenous to the region in the south of the Caucasus was able to make comparisons between the material culture of the Kurds and other related material cultures from the Near East. Some tribal confederations that migrated from Kurdistan to the south of the Caucasus and neighboring regions in the 19th and early 20th centuries effectively continued their national self-consciousness, culture, language and traditions. The findings of field research are supported by archival information, artifacts and objects in Soviet museums in Moscow, Leningrad, Tbilisi and Yerevan and Iranian museums, as well as literary works written in Russian, Western European and Oriental languages.
