
Kutadgu Bilig
Yusuf Has Hacib (ca. 1019-1085): Balasagunlu Yusuf is among the most important Turkish poets and thinkers of the 11th century. Information about him is largely based on the statements in his work Kutadgu Bilig. He lived during the Karakhanid period. He completed the work he started writing in Balasagun in Kashgar, presented it to the Karakhanid ruler Ulu Buğra Khan and was rewarded with the title of Has Hacip. Yusuf Has Hacib, who was understood to have received a good education and knew Arabic, Persian and pre-Islamic Turkish culture well, emphasized in his work the quality of statesmen, how individual, society and state relations should be regulated, and suggested goodness, virtue and rationality in accordance with the traditional values of the society in which he lived.
